Volunteer Spotlight - Besty Carlough

This month's volunteer spotlight goes out to Betsy Carlough! After her retirement, Betsy sought ways to give back to the environmental community and spend more time outdoors. It was during COVID and a lot of animal shelters were not accepting new volunteers, so Betsy was looking for some other opportunities to help out. Lucky for us, she found TRT! Every week, Betsy comes to TRT with a smile and hard-working attitude, ready to tackle whatever we throw at her. Her favorite part about being here is getting to directly give back and help the birds, doing something impactful and productive! Also, getting to work with like-minded people sharing the same goal of helping these vulnerable creatures is something she cherishes. Even though it's hard to pick a favorite feathered friend, Betsy’s says her favorite bird is the Great Blue Heron. Observing their keen, statue-like stillness and amazing flight always makes her think of the Jurassic Park theme song! Betsy says, “I have come to truly love and respect the birds (I had no idea how intelligent they are), as well as having great respect and admiration for the staff who work so hard to help them. I’ve enjoyed my work there much more than I anticipated.” TRT would not be the same without Betsy. We thank you for all you do!
