Volunteer Spotlight - Gail DiGirolamo
Our featured volunteer this month is Gail DeGirolamo! Gail applied to volunteer in 2022, wanting to give back to animals in some way. Loving all creatures wild and domestic, and being a long-time, local admirer of TRT and our mission, this was the perfect fit. Gail is one of our reception volunteers; she transcribes medical notes, keeps our database current and greets visitors at the admit table in the parking lot. Whether staying late on busy migration days to help, sorting newspaper, or lending a sympathetic ear to the members of the public who bring us birds, Gail goes above and beyond. Gail enjoys learning something new every week and something always sparks a new curiosity about these awesome avian patients. Gail's favorite part of being here is getting to see these delicate species up close and personal, while also getting to learn alongside staff and fellow volunteers. She is always impressed by the kindness of the people who bring these birds to us, sometimes disrupting their whole day to help a vulnerable animal in need. Always loving the misunderstood, her favorite bird is the vulture. Though many see vultures as a little scary or gross, Gail appreciates their vital role in our environment and has gotten to know the silly personalities of some of our own resident vultures, with a special fondness for Virgil! In addition to acting as nature’s custodians, she is also partial to corvids, owls, and pigeons. Gail is such an important part of our team here at TRT. She is a funny, gentle soul that we are lucky to have. Thank you for all you do!
